Kate Middleton and King Charles met privately for lunch one day before her cancer announcement: report

Kate Middleton and King Charles III reportedly met for lunch a day before her cancer diagnosis.

Kate Middleton reportedly had a private lunch with King Charles III prior to her cancer announcement. According to sources cited by People, the Princess of Wales and her father-in-law discussed their shared health experiences during the meeting.

Charles, who disclosed his cancer diagnosis in February, has maintained a strong bond with his daughter-in-law over the years, as mentioned by author Sally Bedell Smith in comments to the outlet.

The monarch and his daughter-in-law got together to share their “common health experience” on Thursday, an insider told People Sunday.

Author Sally Bedell Smith also told the outlet the two have “always had a very good bond.

She’s drawn to artistic pursuits and possesses a deep appreciation for art and culture, which creates a natural connection with the King,” remarked the author of “George VI and Elizabeth: The Marriage That Saved the Monarchy.

Their shared interest undoubtedly strengthens their bond, providing them with reassurance and comfort during challenging times.

According to the outlet, Middleton, aged 42, and Charles, aged 75, spent several nights together at The London Clinic in January. During this time, the king was undergoing treatment while the princess had “planned abdominal surgery.”

“She’s interested in artistic things and she appreciates art and culture so has an affinity with the King over that,” Smith explained.

She also got candid about Charles’s cancer diagnosis, which he revealed in February.

Another insider also told People that as Charles continues his treatment, he is “progressing well” and planning his summer agenda without “committing to anything.”

On Friday, Middleton announced she was diagnosed with cancer and was in the early stages of chemotherapy.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful,” the mother of three said in a video.

“Obviously they have this in common and can only bring them closer. It is a source of reassurance and consolation for both of them,” Smith added.

According to the outlet, Middleton and Charles crossed paths while at The London Clinic together as the King underwent cancer treatment and the princess had “planned abdominal surgery.

However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

While she didn’t disclose the type of cancer she had, the princess claimed the diagnosis was a “huge shock.”

Amid the ongoing conspiracy theories about her whereabouts, Middleton furthered she and her husband, Prince William, 41, have been doing everything they can to privately process “for the sake” of themselves and their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5

Another source told People that Charles is “progressing well” with his treatment.

The mother of three revealed she had cancer on Friday.

We’re told the couple wanted their kids to have enough time to “understand and process the news before it was made public.”

Charles immediately showed his support following Middleton’s announcement with a Buckingham Palace spokesperson telling us, he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did.”

The spokesperson furthered the monarch has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.

After undergoing abdominal surgery in January, “tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”

Royal author Valentine Low previously suggested that Middleton likely felt compelled to disclose her diagnosis due to speculation arising from her absence since Christmas 2023.

“They likely felt the need to make an announcement,” explained the author of “Courtiers: Intrigue, Ambition, and the Power Players Behind the House of Windsor.”

Following her announcement, Middleton received apologies from several celebrities who had mocked the conspiracy theories, including those involving an alleged affair scandal and a heavily edited photo.
