The reason why Sarah Ferguson refused to “judge” Meghan Markle and Prince Harry amid the ongoing Royal Family feud has been revealed.

When Harry and Meghan made things official with their relationship in the early days of their romance, the Duke wanted Fergie to be the first royal to meet the Suits star, with them meeting for drinks at the Royal Lodge together as a trio. But despite this meeting, and several more at weddings and funerals since, Fergie maintains that she “doesn’t really know” Meghan.

And now Fergie, the Duchess of York, 63, has spoken out on how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have forged their own lives away from the Royal Family in Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Harry and Meghan famously stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in 2020. Moving across the pond, the couple have since set up lives for themselves in America, with the couple speaking out on their time within the royal fold.

A rift has since occurred, with the Sussexes now somewhat estranged from the monarchy. And Fergie spoke out in 2023, revealing to the world why she will not judge the Susssexes.

“I don’t believe that any single person has the right to judge another person. I’m not in a position myself to make any judgments,” Fergie told PEOPLE last year. She added: “I have been judged all my life, and I have no judgment on the Sussexes.”

She went on to add: “I think that [Princess] Diana would be incredibly proud of her grandchildren. And not just the Sussex grandchildren, but Will’s children,” the Duchess added, referring to Prince William and Princess Kate’s three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Also in 2023, Fergie told The Telegraph she “doesn’t know” Meghan. She brazenly admitted to the paper: “I don’t really know Meghan. I haven’t really met her.”
